Inside the MPA zones
Buffer zones around the areas of high protection will help to provide a protective ring in which some exploitative activities are allowed. For example, these could include static gear fishing such as potting, line fishing and angling. This would help to ensure that these activities benefit from any outputs from the neighbouring highly protected reserve.

Individual MPA sites are also part of the network and distributed around the sea area from the coastline out to the limits of UK jurisdiction. Although some exploitative activities such as potting and angling are allowed; the restriction on mobile gear ensures the recovery, health and productivity of these sites and consequently good catches for those less damaging activities.
